Tucson, Arizona, USACompared with almost everywhere else, the quality of Carrollite crystals from Kamoya South II mine, Kambove District, Katanga Copper Crescent, Dem. Rep. of Congo are sensational. This small cabinet specimen from there is not perfect in the sense that if we are being extremely fussy it does have some slight damage in areas, but if it was from anywhere else my hand would be bitten off for it. In terms of the quality of the individual crystals they are so stunningly reflective, like small silver mirrors. Many present exceptional octahedral form, but the larger they get (on this specimen), the more tarnished they appear. Nevertheless, their shape is wonderful. The largest crystals on this specimen reach 7 or 8 mm across. Combined with this, the accompanying Calcite crystals are really gemmy too. Specimens of any quality are becoming harder and harder to source, so these Carrollites can surely only go up in rarity value.
