Ruby specimens from this fairly well-known locality in Vietnam are becoming harder and harder to find on the market, with fewer and fewer being found after what seems like a heyday in the mid-2000s. This is an attractive and extremely pretty example, with a combination of rich pink color and a pleasing geometric shape. It is highly fluorescent: glowing cherry-red under LW UV, a hallmark of any ruby (both for natural and synthetic material). This specimen features a balanced, multi-dimensional display, with modified hexagonal crystals growing upwards in a beveled, columnar structure, closely resembling a set of stairs. The architectural structure of this piece allows us to appreciate and view the terminations and the luster that exudes from the crystal faces and along the growth features. This specimen shows a delightful feature: a smidge of blue sapphire with the ruby. The combination on this piece shows how interesting geological formation is when the conditions are right and how slightly different trace elements can affect the same species even as it forms. Old material likely from the early-to-mid-2000s. 48 grams
