This lovely set of cut and uncut gem pink Corundum could cause contention between mineral collectors and gemmologists. Previously labelled as the variety Ruby, gemmologists get incensed as Ruby has to be red, and even pink Corundum has to be Sapphire. So, this gorgeous round-cut cut stone is a beautiful pink Sapphire and alongside it is a small, classic, lozenge-shaped pale pink-violet uncut Sapphire crystal, 11 in length, to show its natural form. Both are from the famous gem-producing island Sri Lanka but, like many gemstones, are not provenanced any more precisely. The cut stone is particularly nice, with excellent colour and clarity, and is 0.80 ct and 6 x 5 mm.
