For a Cornish Cassiterite the crystals on this piece are exceptionally gemmy, but then it is from the famous historic occurrence at Polberro mines near St. Agnes. Extremely dense, it is obvious that even the matrix on this specimen is Cassiterite, just very fine-grained. The display surface is not totally covered in crystals, but is liberally coated in exceptionally glossy, brown-coloured, resinous, pseudobipyramidal Cassiterite crystals, the largest to a little over 4 mm in length. Amongst these crystals are a couple of very small colouress cubo-octahedral Fluorite crystals and dark green spherules of Chlorite. Ex Malcolm Southwood Collection, no. MS 1997.023. Two other number labels are attached to this piece about which nothing is known: 11.405 and 010-68.
