This is a fine textural Cornish Cassiterite, labelled as the variety 'Wood Tin' due to its layered banding but which also sometimes gets called 'Toad's eye' tin, when the banding reaches a circular core. Associated with white vein Quartz, the Cassiterite forms bands of massive beige to slightly darker brown, but with a later layer of dark brown glossy prismatic crystals overgrowing, then covered with white Quartz infilling the cavities. This is a fine example of this unusual variety which is well-known historically from West Wheal Kitty. Ex Bruce Grant Collection, no. 559, ex A.K. Borland Collection and ex Richard Barstow Collection, no. 562, from 1981, although the specimen was probably collected much earlier.
