Excellent pair of cuprite crystals, on a likely matrix of calcite and rosasite, from the classic locality of Tsumeb. Grey-black in color with a good, metallic luster, the cuprite crystals glow a muted, deep-red when sufficiently backlit. The crystals are highly modified and sharp. The slightly larger cuprite, about 5 mm across, appears to be modified on some variation of a cuboctahedron. Both crystals are attractive due to their form and color, but the larger crystal has a most distinctive trait. Each triangular face has a series of concentric, triangular, raised terraces highlighting the faces. Take the time to look and appreciate this growth habit, and you will realize just how remarkable these forms are. Set perfectly on the matrix and contrasting well, this thumbnail has a fine overall aesthetic and the individual cuprites have a great aesthetic.
