There are very few places in Britain where good Aurichalcite specimens have been found, but Golconda mine in Derbyshire is certainly one of them. This small cabinet specimen is very rich in Aurichalcite. Comprising of a mass of massive, slightly earthy Baryte, known locally as cawk, cavities formed through the oxidation of primary sulphides are liberally coated with crystalline crusts of a dark turquoise blue Aurichalcite and clusters of beige coloured Hemimorphite microcrystals. The Aurichalcite is mostly darker due to the richness of the compact aggregates of feathery crystals, but is paler blue in areas where the crystals are thinner. This is the sort of specimen that gets overlooked on first glance, but is actually extremely rich for a British Aurichalcite specimen. Super stuff, and recorded on the previous collectors label as having been collected in 1981.
