Numerous attractive blue spherical shaped crystal groupings of hemimorphite to 0.8 cm in diameter in an open pocket within matrix. In good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. He collected the piece on February 8, 1995.Located in the Chilito mining district of Gila County, Arizona, the 79 Mine is a famed lead, zinc, copper, and silver deposit hosted within complexly faulted Paleozoic limestone beds that were intruded by igneous dikes during the Laramie Orogeny. Originally located in 1879, which inspired its distinct name, the property saw active commercial extraction of oxidized metal ores throughout much of the early to mid-twentieth century. Beyond its historic metal production, the 79 Mine became legendary among mineral collectors for yielding world-class specimens of secondary minerals from its rich oxidation zones and underground collapse caverns. Mining operations and specimen recovery efforts produced exquisite, brightly colored examples of wulfenite, aurichalcite, smithsonite, and hemimorphite, making the location one of Arizona's most celebrated historic mineral localities.
