Neat and aesthetic combination piece for this well-known locality, the specimen consists of a crystallized stalactite of attractive blue hemimorphite. Crystals of cerussite and willemite are scattered throughout. Complete all around and in great condition. The Mfouati Mine, located in the Bouenza Department of the Republic of the Congo, is part of a historic polymetallic mining district with operations that expanded significantly during the colonial period of the mid-twentieth century. Geologically, the deposit is situated within karstic cavities of regional sedimentary sequences, where carbonate host rocks and iron-rich alterites interacted with circulating hydrothermal fluids to form complex multi-phase base metal concentrations. Mineralogically, the district is celebrated by collectors worldwide for producing exceptional secondary species, most notably vibrant smithsonite, mimetite, hemimorphite, and dioptase crystals that formed within the weathered oxidation zones.
