An attractive glassy gem quality mostly colorless to slightly sherry colored crystal of topaz with smaller crystallized topaz and feldspar. An excellent thumbnail in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark and dates to the early 2000's.
Nestled in northern Pakistan, the high-altitude region of Gilgit-Baltistan lies within the tectonic collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian plates, famous for its extensive granitic pegmatites and alpine-type hydrothermal veins. Mining history in the area began with artisanal local prospectors traversing rugged valleys such as Shigar, Haramosh, and Dassu, which later grew into a major global supplier of gem-grade minerals. Mineral collectors and gemologists highly value the region for producing exceptionally clear, well-formed topaz crystals ranging from brilliant sherry and golden orange hues to pale blue and champagne tones, often found matrix-hosted alongside quartz and aquamarine.
