A sharp gemmy attractive single terminated crystal of glassy Imperial topaz. In good condition all around.Nestled in the highlands of Minas Gerais, Brazil, Ouro Preto is globally renowned as the premier source of natural imperial topaz. Geologically, the deposits formed through hydrothermal activity during regional tectonic events, where fluorine-rich fluids circulated through weathered metamorphic and altered igneous host rocks to crystallize the prized gemstone in veins and pocket cavities. Historically, mineral exploration in the region began around the late seventeenth century alongside local gold rushes. While initial extraction focused heavily on alluvial gold, miners soon discovered the vibrant yellow, orange, peach, and pink topaz crystals. Over the centuries, operations at key sites like the Capao and Vermelhao mines evolved from artisanal digging into targeted open-pit mining. Today, Ouro Preto remains an iconic destination for both commercial gem extraction and mineral collectors seeking some of the rarest colored silicate crystals in the world.
