This is a wonderful example for this famous pocket collected in the mid 1990s. One large scalenohedral crystal of calcite very sharp and measuring 7.0 cm in height is coming off of matrix with many smaller crystals of calcite. The large calcite crystal, as well as a number of the smaller ones, are coated with sparkling micro crystals of chalcopyrite. Other crystals are not coated. This displays perfectly by itself and is in excellent condition. Shows well all around. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. The Brushy Creek Mine, situated within the Viburnum Trend in Reynolds County, Missouri, USA, is hosted in Paleozoic carbonate rocks and is renowned for producing exceptional mineral specimens. A notable highlight of its mining and collecting history is the famous calcite pocket associated with marcasite discovered on the 1200 level in drift 107B. Initially encountered during underground operations in the 1970s, this extraordinary pocket was later mined commercially in the 1990s, yielding world-class crystal clusters that remain highly prized by collectors for their aesthetic quality and metallic coatings.
