Attractive pink blocky crystals of rhodonite in a grouping 2.0 cm across on a calcite matrix with much crystallized franklinite. In good condition. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video and dates to the very early 20th century.Mining in Franklin, New Jersey began in the 19th century and focused on rich zinc deposits hosted in Precambrian marble. The Franklin and nearby Sterling Hill mines became major producers of zinc ore for many decades. The district is also famous for its extraordinary mineral diversity, with more than 350 mineral species identified. Many specimens from Franklin are valued by collectors for their unusual minerals and fluorescent properties.
