Choice lustrous crystal grouping of galena with little attached matrix. Crystals of quartz, golden chalcopyrite, and disc-shaped crystals of calcite to 1.0 cm in size are present as well. Neat little combination piece for this famous locality that is in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. The Nikolaevskiy Mine, located in the Dalnegorsk ore district of Primorskiy Kray, Russia, opened in 1982 and remains an active underground operation focused on polymetallic extraction. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within deformed Triassic-Jurassic limestone and skarn systems associated with Late Cretaceous volcanism. Hydrothermal activity formed extensive vugs and cavities within the carbonate rocks, creating ideal spaces for the crystallization of world-class sulfide and gangue mineral assemblages, including spectacular galena, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, quartz, and fluorite.
