A loose thick prismatic light bluish green terminated crystal of microcline, this the variety known as amazonite. Collected in 1957. Complete all around and in good condition.Crystal Peak, located near Florissant in Teller County, Colorado, is a prominent landmark within the 1.1 billion-year-old Pikes Peak batholith, featuring rugged terrain formed by differential erosion of coarse-grained granite and miarolitic pegmatite pockets. While prospectors and mining companies began commercially extracting specimens from the area around the mid-1860s to 1870s rather than operating as a traditional single-date commercial metal mine with strict closing dates, the locality remains internationally famous. It is primarily known for producing microcline, particularly its prized blue-green variety amazonite, which owes its distinct coloration to trace amounts of lead and natural irradiation within the pegmatite cavities.
