Attractive combination specimen, a gem glassy blue crystal of beryl 2.2 cm in length, this gem quality, is set nicely up on a grouping of thick lustrous black schorl crystals. Minor white opaque crystals of microcline are scattered throughout. In very good condition all around. The Erongo Mountains in western Namibia form a prominent circular volcanic complex created by Mesozoic ring dikes and granitic intrusions during the breakup of Gondwana over 130 million years ago. Small-scale miners and local collectors have worked these rugged granite pocket deposits for decades, uncovering world-class mineral specimens inside miarolitic cavities and pegmatite veins across sites like Erongo Peak and the surrounding farms. The region is internationally famous for producing exceptional gem-quality aquamarine beryl crystals, lustrous black schorl tourmaline, deep purple fluorite, clear quartz, and lustrous jeremejevite crystals, often occurring in aesthetic matrix combinations that make them highly sought after in the global mineral market.

Beryl from Erongo Mountains, Namibia
from the Erongo Mountains is one of the modern classics of African mineral collecting: blue to blue-green aquamarine, colorless goshenite, yellow heliodor-like beryl, green beryl, and sharply zoned combinations of these colors, commonly staged against black schorl and pale feldspar. The best specimens have a look that is unmistakably Erongo—hexagonal beryl prisms with glassy terminations, milky or included bases, and dramatic contrast with glossy black tourmaline sprays, orthoclase, albite, smoky quartz, fluorite, muscovite, and occasional hyalite opal.
