Tanzanite is a unique variety of the mineral species zoisite trade-named for its style and colors. It is widely famous in the mineral and gem world for its unique multi-color spectrum, but we are usually talking about purple-blue-red. Yellow tanzanite (yellow zoisite to be precise) is more rare than the common blue/purpley style, and also quite highly sought after by mineral collectors for its unique color. However, even more rare is a COMBINATION of yellow zoisite growing as a top zone or portion of the typical purple-blue material, such as we see here. Usually, they are one or the other. I have only seldom seen a crystal with BOTH colors in the same specimen, and strongly. This natural color combo is striking in hand, although hard to photograph. From an old tanzanite stash which we recently acquired. 50 grams.
