Zoisite var. "Yellow Tanzanite"

This STUNNING zoisite is a fabulous example of the world-class zoisites found at legendary Merelani Hills in Tanzania. It is, for a thumbnail "yellow", one of the very best we have seen in watching these come out since the 1990s. We purchased it directly from a trusted source who actually supplies much of the mineral world, when we happened to meet him at a hotel in Tokyo on his way back in from Africa at the time. I got lucky to see the lot first! He had this one highly unusual batch of "yellows" from a small single pocket; and this gem quality thumbnail was the best of the lot of any size. It is magical in person, with a likely brilliance to it that is hard to convey in words or video. Tanzanite is actually a special varietal of zoisite and this is a zoisite from the tanzanite locality but...when not blue, we simply call it a zoisite because the public identifies "tanzanite" with the color blue. And yet, chemically, it is what tanzanite is, at some level (trace elements - a bit more or less of some - make it yellow instead of blue). Some dealers call these "yellow tanzanites" although that seems a misnomer; but it does convey both the location and the immediate recognition of what it is. 11 grams of gem-quality, water-clear yellow crystal, this zoisite has outstanding luster to complement both its color and clarity. With such innate beauty, it could go, as is, as a jewel around someone's neck just as easily as being a great addition to any collection.
