Green Cuprian Smithsonite is rare from anywhere in the world and was only found a few times at the 79 Mine during many decades mining here, mostly on the 4th level of the mine in the 1990s. This is a large, important, and very attractive cabinet-sized plate of Cuprian Smithsonite from this locality with the display face of the plate completely covered in translucent, two-toned, bright lime green and vivid light green, low-profile botryoids of Smithsonite that displays a captivating resinous luster that almost looks wet-looking. It is remarkably pristine. The gray matrix beneath adds to the depth of the green color of the Smithsonite. It's very difficult to obtain Smithsonite of this quality from the 79 Mine, and as far as I am aware it has been over 3 decades since any were recovered of quality. Ex. Bob Reynolds collection with label, and Bob (a field collector himself and San Bernardino Museum curator as well) surely purchased this directly from the field collector, George Godas. These are significant USA specimens. One last comment - there were several pockets found in a few different occasions, but THIS IS THE BEST GREEN, and stands far above the average quality even of what was found. The two-tone style and the darker green is particularly the older material, very scarce!
