Vivianite
The Morococala mine in the Santa F' mining district of Dalence Province, Bolivia, has operated as a tin mine for many decades and still produces Cassiterite. In the early 1980s Vivianite was encountered on the 280 m level but, sadly, this area of the mine is now flooded. This very choice miniature has a core matrix of limonitic-ochre which is completely coated with densely packed acicular Vivianite crystals, typically to 8 mm long. At a distance the specimen appears almost black, but on close inspection the crystals are a stunning translucent electric blue.
