Forsterite var. Peridot
This is a superb crystal of glassy and gemmy, light emerald-green peridot. It is difficult to tell from the photos perhaps, but this is literally as good as it gets - color, luster, sharpness, and saturation of color (itself not the same thing as color, per se). The crystal still exhibits incredible crystal form that nature blessed it with when forming 100 million years or so ago as the Himalayas rose from the Indian plate slamming into Asia, unlike the more rounded form of most peridot specimens we see. The combination of all of these qualities cannot be underestimated. It is so rare to see a peridot which does not have a weakness, a critical gap, in either color or luster or shape or saturation. And, lastly, it is gemmy like green glass, in a way that few peridot are. Most peridot are murky inside, even if lustrous outside. This is glassy, in the literal sense. It is a gem crystal. It is simply better than most others, although hard to convey in photo - but obvious when held in the hand. To use one final hyperbole to show how much we appreciate this specimen: this is a freak of nature, that literally stomps on most other peridot specimens in gram for gram quality. In a competitive case, it would leap out.
