The San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation in Gila County, Arizona has long been known as the source of some of the finest gem-grade Peridot (a variety of Forsterite) in the Americas. Usually seen as individual rough gemstones, or larger blocks of the 'volcanic bombs' containing larger areas of vibrant green Peridot, it is exceptionally rare to see gem quality crystals of Peridot still attached to matrix. However, this superb small cabinet-sized display specimen is exactly that, featuring an intensely green, transparent, gem crystal, reaching 1.7 cm across exposed within the more typical translucent paler green Peridot making up the core of a volcanic bomb. A really excellent display of this American classic.
