The Traversella mine, which first exploited iron at least as early as the 5th century AD, is most famous among collectors for tetragonal bipyra-midal scheelite crystals, but has also produced good crystals of calcite, siderite, pyrite, galena, dolomite, amethystine quartz, and many other species including a variety of diopside called traversellite.
