Collected in the late 1970s or early 1980s, an excellent example for this rare mineral. Bright lustrous sharp crystals of metallic silver siegenite measuring to 0.3 cm in size very rich across the top of matrix with golden crystallized marcasite and a non-lustrous crystal of galena 1.0 cm on edge. This is in very good condition. The Buick Mine, located within the Viburnum Trend of Iron County, Missouri, is a world-class Mississippi Valley-type deposit hosted in Cambrian dolostone formations. Discovered in 1960 and brought into production in the following decade, the mine became a major commercial producer of lead and zinc while also yielding an exceptional variety of sulfide minerals. Among its most celebrated mineralogical features is siegenite, a rare nickel-cobalt sulfide that formed stunning metallic crystals and coatings often perched on dolomite or marcasite matrices. Coveted by mineral collectors for its sharp octahedral forms and brilliant metallic luster, siegenite from the Buick Mine remains a legendary highlight of the district's rich mining history.
