From the early 1980s or late 1970s, this is a good richly crystallized example for this rare mineral. Bright lustrous metallic silver crystals of siegenite to 0.3 cm in size are scattered attractively across the top of matrix with small golden crystallized marcasite. In very good condition. The Buick Mine, located within the Viburnum Trend of Iron County, Missouri, is a world-class Mississippi Valley-type deposit hosted in Cambrian dolostone formations. Discovered in 1960 and brought into production in the following decade, the mine became a major commercial producer of lead and zinc while also yielding an exceptional variety of sulfide minerals. Among its most celebrated mineralogical features is siegenite, a rare nickel-cobalt sulfide that formed stunning metallic crystals and coatings often perched on dolomite or marcasite matrices. Coveted by mineral collectors for its sharp octahedral forms and brilliant metallic luster, siegenite from the Buick Mine remains a legendary highlight of the district's rich mining history.
