Classic Italian combination thumbnail specimen, a bright lustrous golden crystal of pyrite set up on a micaceous lustrous metallic hematite matrix. In great condition.Rio Marina, located on the island of Elba in Tuscany, Italy, is world-renowned for its rich iron mineral deposits formed through complex hydrothermal and metasomatic processes within ancient sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. Iron mining here dates back to Etruscan and Roman times, making it a cornerstone of the region's economy for millennia until industrial mining operations ended in the late twentieth century. Today, the historic mines and surrounding areas are celebrated globally by mineral collectors and geologists for producing exceptional crystalline specimens, particularly brilliant metallic iron oxides and iron sulfides.
