Non-lustrous mostly opaque crystal grouping of datolite, this hosting smaller pseudo-cubic crystals of chabazite. In good condition. The Upper New Street Quarry, located in Paterson, New Jersey, was an industrial trap-rock operation active primarily from the late 19th century through the early 20th century. Situated within the First Watchung Mountain, the site consists of an ancient basalt flow containing vesicles and fractures where hydrothermal fluids once circulated. These geological conditions allowed the formation of a wide variety of secondary minerals, making the quarry historically world-renowned among collectors for fine zeolite specimens, prehnite, datolite, pectolite, and quartz varieties such as amethyst.
