The La Pita mine, is one of a small group of emerald mines in the western part of the Columbian emerald-mining area and was opened in 1997. This quite productive mine appears to be dominated by incredibly gemmy, but slightly paler green Emerald crystals. This small cabinet-sized display specimen features at least seven Beryl var. Emerald crystals several of which are incredibly fine. The largest crystal reaches 1.7 cm in length but over half of its length is much darker, included with tiny Pyrite crystals. Nevertheless, its upper part, and termination is gem quality, with a great green saturation. Another extremely gemmy crystal is 1.3 cm in length and all present the classic hexagonal prismatic form with flat pinacoid terminations. Their fine green colour stands out well against the grey crystallized Calcite matrix with flashes of golden Pyrite as minute individual crystals. This is an extremely fine display quality Emerald from La Pita mine.
