Morganite from Afghanistan gives old classic Brazilian morganite a run for its money, offering the same aesthetics, color, and impact but at a better price point compared to the old Brazilian pegmatite combo specimens. This miniature-sized specimen in particular boasts an impressive, large, robust tabular hexagonal morganite that sits proudly as the focal crystal, measuring 5.1 cm across and 1.7 cm thick. It has superb gemminess, offering a window through the interior. The morganite is a soft blush pink and has great luster all around, with a softly frosted face on the backside. This piece, like many Afghan pegmatite minerals, has other associated combinations paired with it, such as milky white quartz crystals in the front and back, and smaller sidecar blades of lime-green elbaite that sprinkle the backside of the morganite. The piece displays nicely on its own without the aid of a base. No repairs or restoration, which I consider highly unusual in such a balanced morganite from this region, considering the violent work of extraction and trimming.
