The rich intensity of colour to this Beryl var. Emerald crystal is phenomenal, particularly for China, which is not renowned for significant gem deposits. Situated quite near to the border with Vietnam in Malipo County, Wenshan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, the Dayakou Emerald mine came to prominence in the earliest years of the 20th century, but the flow of specimens has been variable and most are very pale green in colour. This very small miniature matrix specimen features a very dark emerald green crystal - something for which the locality is not renowned. Not only is this a superby coloured Emerald, but it has a really excellent shape to it too: a hexagonal prism with an etched termination. It measures 0.9 cm in length and sits upright perfectly displaying its wonderful colour and form.
