Of all the species of rarities from Tsumeb, some just only occur as micros and will never be suitable for a display-sized piece for display collections, outside the rare species suite/drawers...and usually we relegate this species named after the very location, to those secondary stashes. However, this is one of the richest and most important examples we know of, for both size of the piece and size of the crystals; as well as the pretty display. Scores of colorful tsumcorite crystal clusters cover the gossan matrix of this small cabinet specimen from one of the world's greatest locales, and it's namesake, the Tsumeb Mine. The tsumcorite sprays are composed of dark yellow to orange-yellow, spiky prismatic crystals that, under a loupe or a microscope, have an almost feathery appearance. The tsumcorite crystals occur in divergent, radial, rounded sprays to 7mm across, which are large groups for the species! Normally, the mineral reaches 1-2mm if you are lucky - as a smear on an ugly matrix. The radial aggregates are in excellent condition, even around the periphery of the piece. Tsumcorite is a lead-zinc arsenate hydrate. Although tsumcorite has been found at other localities, Tsumeb is the type locality and has also produced the best-of-species specimens, like this one! This specimen is definitely among the richest of the species we have ever seen! It comes from the important Tsumeb collection built by the Flynn's over 60 years collecting. Likely, this came out in the 1960s-70s and, to us, we believe must be one of the few display worthy, museum-sized examples in existence. We are well aware hos suspiciously large the crystals are - and to be sure they are not strange mimetites, we include an analysis.
