Caramello colored prismatic crystals of wulfenite measuring to 0.8 cm in size throughout full-size of this limonite matrix. In good condition.The Ojuela Mine in Mapimi, Durango, Mexico, has a rich history spanning over three centuries, initially opened by Spanish prospectors in 1598. Commercial industrial operations by Industrias Penoles ceased in 1932 due to exhausted primary ore reserves and economic pressures, though the underground workings continue to be accessed intermittently by local miners for world-class mineral specimens. Geologically, the deposit consists of complex hydrothermal pipe and vein networks-including the San Juan Poniente vein system-hosted within massive Cretaceous limestone. Extensive oxidation of primary sulfide ores produced a deep gossan zone rich in secondary species, where localized pockets yielded sharp, highly lustrous, pyramidal wulfenite crystals often associated with green mimetite.
