FLUORO-Richterite
Fluoro-richterite is a rare sodium-calcium amphibole containing magnesium and fluorine and this magnificent small cabinet specimen is from the Gibson Road East occurrence close to Monmouth Township in Ontario, Canada. This locality was discovered by a mineral collector in about 1995 and has since produced seven different species, often as very fine crystals. This is a truly excellent example of Fluoro-richterite, the highlight being a perfect 4.0 x 2.5 x 2.1 cm double terminated crystal perched at an angle on top of a dark greenish black massive Fluoro-richterite matrix, itself encrusted with small Fluoro-richterite crystals. Sparsely scattered on the matrix are patches of translucent tan Microcline and bluish green micro-granules of probable Fluorapatite. A stunning Fluoro-richterite crystal from the fascinating Gibson Road East occurrence in Haliburton County, Ontario.
