Genthelvite on Polylithionite
A fabulously cry stalled miniature of the rare beryllium-zinc silicate Genthelvite forming a cluster of stacked equilateral triangular-shaped crystals to over 1 cm and attached to a translucent silver plate of Polylithionite, a Mica Group mineral. From Mont Saint-Hilaire near Montreal in Québec, Canada, this is a MSH classic and of good crystal size. Until several years ago more than one quarrying operation simultaneously took place in this hill-side quarry, but in more recent years these have now been absorbed into the Poudrette quarry. The accompanying video shows this specimen in white LED light and ultraviolet light, in which the Genthelvite fluoresces a light minty green, almost the same shade as the filling of a chocolate peppermint Aero bar! I reckon I need to eat one this evening to confirm this colour comparison.
