SCHORL TOURMALINE WITH AQUAMARINE

Shengus, Roundu District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan

19.2 cm tall x 6.2 cm wide

Gilgit-Baltistan (formerly known as the Northern Areas) is home to more than fifty mountain peaks above 7,000 meters (23,000 feet), including K2 at 8,611 meters (28,251 feet.) Seventy percent of all gem mineral production comes from this province. It is an immensely mineral rich area, but mining is extremely difficult due to the altitudes and unpredictable weather. This region of Pakistan is famous for producing the most spectacular aquamarine and schorl tourmaline combination specimens found anywhere in the world. This example has a tall, majestic shimmering black schorl crystal rising from crossing aquamarine crystals. The balance and elegance of this piece is unrivaled.
