This description can only begin with Wow! It is rare to find well-formed bladed Ferberite (the iron-dominant end of the Wolframite series) crystals of any sort, let alone a colossus like this from Kara-Oba in Karagandy Province, Kazakhstan. From one side, what appears to be one large, oversized crystal of the iron tungstate Ferberite, when turned around has a piggybacked, second impressive Ferberite crystal in parallel alignment on the back, made all the more striking as it stands slightly proud of the larger crystal. It really is remarkable! The larger Ferberite is almost rectangular with a horizontal termination and measures 15 x 11 cm. The smaller crystal on the back has an elongated rounded termination, like a gothic arch, and overall measures approximately 10.5 x 8 cm. If all this were not sufficient, overgrowths of Quartz, Galena, Pyrite and light green Epidote attractively dust the Ferberite making for a large cabinet display specimen which will arrest anyone's attention. A really significant Ferberite crystal. Ex Hans Engelbrecht Collection.
