Blue botryoidal crystal groupings of hemimorphite measuring to 0.8 cm in diameter, there are four of these, and a pocket within matrix. All in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. He collected the piece on February 8, 1995.Located in the Dripping Spring Mountains of Gila County, Arizona, the historic 79 Mine was originally discovered in 1879 and operated intermittently as an underground base metal mine before transitioning into a renowned locality for mineral collectors. The local geology consists of sedimentary strata, including limestone and shale, intruded by igneous rocks where extensive hydrothermal activity formed rich oxidized ore deposits. Hemimorphite is one of the most abundant minerals encountered in the mine workings, typically presenting as sparkling crystal coatings, delicate botryoidal crusts, and attractive light blue or white crystalline aggregates lining open vugs and fractures.
