Strontianite

At almost 30 cm in length, this long plate of Strontianite from Oberdorf an der Laming in Styria, Austria is truly exceptional. Most specimens started smaller, or were trimmed down into small pieces, making this a remarkable survivor. Liberally covered in well-formed, classic Oberdorf 'hexagonal' prisms, individually reaching to 1.8 cm in length, all of which appear to be in superb condition, this really is a phenomenal Austria classic for a collector with space. The matrix hosting these superb Strontianite crystals is probably Magnesite, or perhaps Dolomite, but it is the Strontianite that is the focus of attention. Ex Franz Lammer Collection, it was almost certainly collected in the 1980s, or earlier.
