Classic Austrian thumbnail specimen with lustrous mostly gemmy crystals of strontianite in a cluster without matrix. In good condition.Oberdorf, located in the Styrian region of Austria, is a celebrated mineral locality with a history tied to regional mining and quarrying operations that date back through the 19th and 20th centuries. Geologically, the area is characterized by complex alpine tectonic settings, featuring carbonate and sedimentary formations where hydrothermal solutions and low-temperature alteration processes created favorable conditions for rare mineral deposition. Mineralogically, Oberdorf is internationally famous among collectors for producing some of the finest crystal specimens of strontianite, a strontium carbonate mineral, typically occurring as lustrous, translucent, pseudo-hexagonal prisms or needles resting on a contrasting carbonate matrix.
