The top side of this matrix is covered with choice colorless to orange translucent twinned semi lustrous crystals of chabazite, these measuring to 0.5 cm in size. The orange color is due to iron oxide. Very good rich hand sample for the species. The Ober-Widdersheim quarry, located near Nidda in the Wetteraukreis region of Hesse, Germany, is situated within the expansive Tertiary volcanic field of the Vogelsberg mountain range. Hydrothermal fluids circulating through vesicles and gas cavities within the basaltic lava flows deposited a variety of zeolites as the rocks cooled. Local quarrying operations, primarily harvesting basalt for road construction and aggregate, exposed these mineral-rich pockets, allowing collectors to discover exceptional chabazite specimens. The locality is well known in the mineralogical community for producing lustrous, well-formed chabazite crystals, often occurring in classic rhombohedral formations alongside associated minerals like calcite and phillipsite.
