Although miniature in size, the intensity in colour and extremely glassy lustre of the Cobaltoan Calcite crystals covering this specimen from Mashamba West mine is quite phenomenal. Hosted by an ironstone matrix coated by a thin layer of botryoidal Goethite, this is then covered by white to pale pink Calcite that transitions outwards into glossy, gemmy, vivid rose-pink nail-head style Cobaltoan Calcite crystals. Pink Calcite of this quality simply does not exist outside of the DR Congo - even the older material from Morocco - and even then it is extremely rare. An absolutely choice Cobaltoan Calcite, simply delightful.
