Conichalcite on Dolomite
43 Level, Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia
4.8 x 4.2 x 3.2
Ex. Neufeld, Erika Pohl-Stroher, Sussman
This exceptional miniature specimen, measuring 4.8 cm by 4.2 cm by 3.2 cm, represents an incredibly rare and celebrated occurrence of conichalcite from the world-famous Tsumeb Mine in Namibia. Rather than forming the typical continuous crusts found at most localities, this choice piece showcases a highly unusual habit of individual, one-millimeter green botryoids. These vibrant, grass-green spheres of calcium-copper arsenate exhibit a lovely satin luster and are richly sprinkled across a contrasting matrix of sparkling, nearly bright white dolomite crystals that show signs of light geological etching.
What makes this particular piece extraordinarily significant to mineral collectors is its origin from a single, legendary discovery on the mine's 43 level.
