A gemmy lustrous pink terminated crystal of spodumene, this the variety known as kunzite, measuring 4.0 cm in height coming off of a white crystallized albite matrix. This is in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. The Nuristan and Laghman regions of eastern Afghanistan feature a rugged mountain geology defined by complex metamorphic host rocks intruded by Tertiary granitic magmas, which created some of the most prolific rare-metal granitic pegmatite fields in the world. Mining and mineral collecting in these remote areas have a long history of artisanal extraction, gaining substantial international attention during the late 20th century as local miners opened rich pockets within the pegmatite veins. These deposits are especially famous for producing world-class gem-quality spodumene, yielding massive, highly transparent crystals in remarkable shades of pink, purple, and green that rank among the finest specimens ever discovered.
