Hematite ps. Garnet with Topaz and Bixbyite

This is an extremely unusual specimen of Hematite pseudomorph after Garnet from Topaz Mountain, Utah. Topaz Mountain is America’s famous source of gem and specimen Topaz, but few know that Garnets form there too, and even fewer know about the Garnet pseudomorphs. This specimen is a cluster of three Garnets (one quite large and two medium-sized) that have chemically altered into lumps of Hematite. The Hematite is compact but flaky and preserves the Garnet crystal faces and edges in several spots, including almost the entirety of the larger crystal. Tan Rhyolite matrix coats much of the specimen, and sparkling Topaz crystals grow from it. There are a few small Bixbyite crystals as well.
Dimensions (approx.): 1.1 x 0.9 x 0.9 in (2.8 x 2.3 x 2.3 cm)
