The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.The Bishop Mine, often referred to as the Bishop copper prospect or manganese mine near Lynch Station in Campbell County, Virginia, operated intermittently as an exploratory and small-scale extraction site beginning in the 19th century before eventually closing, though exact opening and closing dates are not well-documented in formal corporate records. Geologically, the site is globally famous for hosting secondary phosphate and copper weathering assemblages, specifically being renowned as a premier locality for exceptional crystalline turquoise and related rare secondary minerals formed within deformed metamorphic rock units of the Piedmont geologic province.
