A sharp double terminated crystal of zircon set on matrix. In good condition. The Saranac Mine area, located in Monmouth Township within Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada, has a history of mineral exploration dating back to the mid-1950s when companies like Saranac Uranium Mines Limited actively trenched and evaluated the property for rare elements and radioactive minerals. Geologically, the deposit is situated within the Grenville Province of the Canadian Shield, featuring Mesoproterozoic marble and metamorphic country rocks intruded by complex granitic pegmatites and radioactive leucogranite sills. Mineralogically, the locality became celebrated among collectors for producing exceptional, sharp, well-formed prismatic zircon crystals, often found in association with other accessory phases like thorite, apatite, and allanite within the white pegmatite and skarn zones.
