A complete gem "floater" of the rarest of the garnets in collector quality, tsavorite. When we say gem, in this case, we mean both gemmy and literally gem-clear, in terms of transparency; and with an internal brightness to match the surface luster. It is not clean - there are inclusions within (probably graphite); but it is gemmy in the sense of window-like clarity. At 13.22 carats and over 1 cm in dimensions, this is a full thumbnail if not an overly large one. The crystal is a true floater, meaning it is complete with no point of contact, perfectly formed - and symmetrical - on all sides. It is literally a textbook geometry come to life in 3 dimensions without being interrupted in growth on any faces or by contact to matrix. While these get darker, greener, bigger - they do not get any brighter or gemmier. It is a powerfully impactful crystal to hold in the hand, illustrating crystallographic perfection in symmetry. Obtained from the long-held private stash of longtime gem dealer Steve Ulatowski, a veteran of over 100 trips to Tanzania in his pursuit of tanzanite gems. To end with this: it is simply better in person, mesmerizing in the hand.
