A wonderful French classic with sharp lustrous gemmy crystals of axinite measuring to 2.3 cm in size across the top of matrix. In super condition.Le Bourg d Oisans near Grenoble in Isere, France, is a classic Alpine mineral locality known for specimens found in fractures and cavities within metamorphic rocks of the French Alps. The area has long produced fine crystals formed by hydrothermal activity during Alpine mountain building. Among the notable minerals from this region is axinite, a boron bearing silicate that commonly occurs as sharp, wedge shaped crystals with brown to violet brown color. Axinite specimens from Le Bourg d Oisans are valued by collectors for their well formed crystals and association with other Alpine minerals such as quartz, epidote, and chlorite.
