Devilline
Špania Dolina (Herrengrund) is often thought of as the Type Locality for Devilline. It is not, 'Cornwall' is, but there is no doubting that the Slovakian specimens are much richer and better crystallized, and the specific Cornish first occurrence has never been specified. This miniature specimen from Špania Dolina is a super example, consisting of a layer of well crystallized interlocking thin plates of Devilline, reaching about 5 mm in height, covering an area about 35 x 20 mm. Although Devilline specimens have been found in the area in modern times, specimens as well crystallized as this are always assumed to be derived from later 19th century mining operations and are rarely available for sale. Back then, the mineral was given the name Herrengrundite, until it was realised that it is identical to Devilline. Tiny spherical green crystals coat the Devilline in several areas. These have not been analysed, but are assumed to be simply Malachite. A great miniature specimen of a European classic.
