Arborescent aragonite on altered calcite, 4 cm, from an Upper Cretaceous concretion in Otero County, Colorado. Collected in March 2007. Specimens such as this occur on the underside of rocks near the top of a concretion, and presumably result from the flow of meteoric water with consequent dissolution of the calcite and deposition as aragonite.
